8 Health Benefits of Elderberry

Written by andy

They’re so much more than just a berry…

If you’ve never heard of elderberries, you’re missing out! They come from a family of toxic berries, but are the only ones safe for consumption. You’ll find that they offer a surprising number of benefits, making them an awesome remedy for a wide number of health problems!

Not sure what they can do? Here are some of the health benefits of elderberry:

  • Respiratory aid — Got a sore throat, a cough, bronchitis, or some other pulmonary issue? Try a bit of elderberry juice! The juice is packed with bioflavonoids that can reduce swelling in your lungs and throat, eliminate phlegm, and clear out your respiratory tract. You may even want to try the juice as a means of treating asthma.
  • Digestive aid –– Elderberries are rich in fiber; with up to 40% of the daily dose of fiber needed for a healthy digestive system. The fiber in the berries can help to loosen up your bowels, reducing blockage and preventing constipation. It can even treat gas and bloating, boosting your digestive function overall.
  • Immunity booster –– Want to have an immune system better able to defend your body from invading infections and diseases? Try elderberry! The fruit contains potent anti-infection and anti-bacterial properties, making it particularly effective against the flu. You’ll find that it may even help to protect your body from damage in cases of autoimmune disorders.
  • Heart booster –– For those worried about the condition of their heart, elderberries deserve a place on their menu. These little berries have a high fiber content, making them effective at lowering cholesterol and blood lipid levels. This can reduce blockages, prevent arterial narrowing, and lower blood pressure. The result: a much healthier heart less likely to develop serious problems!

  • Diabetes aid –– Did you know that the antioxidants in elderberries can help to regulate your insulin levels? The antioxidants affect your pancreas, making them more effective at controlling the levels of blood sugar (and thus insulin) in your body. For diabetics, these berries can reduce the risk of excess blood sugar. For non-diabetics, they can stop you from developing the disease!
  • Skin aid –– Want to keep your skin looking healthy, fresh, and beautiful? Try some elderberries! The berries are rich in bioflavonoids, antioxidants that nourish your skin and increase hydration. The Vitamin A and C content in the berries will also reduce age spots, tighten skin, prevent and treat wrinkles, and provide your skin the nutrients it needs to produce more collagen. All in all, these berries are AMAZING for your skin!
  • Bone and joint aid — To prevent your bones and joints from developing problems as you age, add elderberries to your weekly menu. The nutrients in the berries promote the development of new, healthy bone tissue, as well as strengthen your bones. The anti-inflammatory properties of the berries will reduce swelling around your joints, increasing mobility, decreasing pain, and preventing joint degeneration.
  • Overall health booster –– Some people believe that the high fiber content of the berries make them an effective weight loss aid, and the berries will provide you with a slight boost to your metabolism. However, elderberries are not the most effective weight loss solution. They will provide your body with a hefty dose of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants needed to have healthy overall function.

Thanks to these berries, you can keep your body in good running condition for many, many more years to come!
