Created as a tribute to his dead wife Janet, the heart shaped meadow near Wickwar, South Gloucestereshire was created by a farmer named Winston Howes by planting thousands of oak trees. It can’t actually be seen from the ground and for many years, remained a family secret until a hot air balloonist discovered it from the air. Howes and his wife were married for 33 years until she died at age 50. The farmer says he goes there sometimes just to reflect on her life and their time together, which I think is really sweet in a straight, heterosexual, breeder type of way. The coolest thing about the field is that it is only accessible from a track at its very tip, which points to Wotten Hill, where his wife was born.
