L’Hemisfèric
In case you have never heard of it, the City of Arts and Sciences in an entertainment complex located in Valencia, Spain. It is basically a bunch of architecturally spectacular buildings that serve as the cultural center for the city. The City is situated in a former riverbed (the river Turia), which was drained and rerouted after a devastating flood in 1957. In case you don’t believe me about it being architecturally spectacular, here are some facts and pics:
El Museo de les Ciences Principe Felipe is an interactive science museum that was build to resemble the skeleton of a whale.
L’Hemisfèric is an Imax theater, Planetarium and Laserium, built to look like a giant eye. The Hemesferic is considered the centerpiece of the City of Arts and Sciences, and is known as the “eye of knowledge”.
L’Umbracle is a landscaped walkway chock full of plant species indigenous to Valencia (crazy plant-life such as: rockrose, lentisca, romero, lavender, honeysuckle, bougainvillea, palm tree). L’Umbracle also houses “The walk of sculptures”, an outdoor gallery featuring sculptures from contemporary artists.
L’Oceanogràfic is an open-air oceanographic park. L’Oceanografic is the largest ocean aquarium in Europe with 110,000 square meters and 42 million liters of water. I would convert that to feet and gallons, but I’m too pretty to be good at math. The park was designed in the shape of a giant water lily, which makes sense since water lilies live in the ocean, and everything.
