An Exotic Stone Garden: The Palais Ideal, France

Palais Ideal
Written by Gary

To me, stone gardens are better then real gardens because they require minimal upkeep, last forever, don’t require me to snort 8 tabs of Claritin, and aren’t filled with straight people tongue-kissing away the honeymoon phases of their relationships. The Palais Ideal in Hauterives, France is one of the oldest documented outside art gardens in existence today, made entirely out of stone.

Palais Ideal

Built by a letter carrier named Ferdinand Cheval, the idea for the art garden came to him when he tripped over a rock, and liked the shape and texture so much he decided to start collecting them. If I had a dollar for every time that happened to me, I could snort exactly 8 tabs of Claritin ($1). He spent 33 years experimenting with concrete before completing the structure in 1912, which contains strange exotic forms of architecture, animals, plants, statues, and inscriptions. To the people of France, the stone garden represents that a man with a lowly career can achieve great aspirations if he puts his mind to it. To me, the garden represents a great place to have risque public sex with my future husband.
