The term ‘bikini body’ no longer only refers only to thin women.
The unspoken fashion rule that only thin women can wear bikinis has been thrown out the window, because big girls all over the world are strutting around in two-pieces, taking cutesy selfies, and hashtagging them with #fatkini and #losehatenotweight.
If you think about it, after us gays, overweight people are probably the last group of people who are openly discriminated against. The idea with this social media campaign is that the photos will encourage other big and beautiful women to dive into the world of two-piece swimsuits, and then eventually encourage stores and retailers to start providing bikinis in larger sizes. For most of the women in the photos, it is their first time ever wearing a two-piece, so the photos also represent overcoming fear, and inspire younger girls to accept their bodies.
I know that I’m a snarky gay guy and you probably think most of this is meant to be sarcastic, because I make fun of everyone without discrimination against race, sexuality, gender, or weight.

I support this movement though, because I think everyone should have the right to wear whatever they want in public, without judgment. No matter who you are, chances are you are at least a little uncomfortable with your body. Most people take these insecurities out on people who they perceive to be ‘worse off’ than themselves.
These big girls are fighting against that, and so I can’t help but applaud them.
