A 52-year-old Australian mother is still breastfeeding a 6 year old.
In the world of ‘what the Hell is happening on Earth’ this ranks pretty damn high. 52 year old Maha Al Musa is an Australian belly dancing expert and human rights activist who plans to breastfeed her daughter until she is 10. I don’t know about you, but the face that she is 52 and can still produce breast milk is pretty astonishing. Her daughter Amina seems to love it, and says it’s the best part of her day, and even when they are in public, they aren’t shy about popping out Maha’s boob for an afternoon snack.
I am of two minds on this subject. For one, I think every family should be able to decide what they want to do, and how they want to do it. On the other hand, letting a 6-year-old suck on your boob seems a little strange to me, and I can’t imagine that this won’t have some kind of side effects for the girl down the line, mostly emotional.

I think it is only strange my modern standards. Historically it is normal to breastfeed until 7 years old, and this has been proven by anthropologists and studies about primates.
