Van Girls is the all-female moving company that the world has been waiting for.

Lazy people everywhere rejoice, no longer will you have to sit around and watch sweaty, hairy men move all your possessions into your girlfriend’s apartment on your one-week anniversary. Van Girls is London’s answer to the need for an all-girl moving company. And I say, it’s about time.

Founder Emma Lanman started the company in 2011 when she quit her job at the fire brigade. I swear, I am not making this up. She saw how well people reacted to a female fire-fighter and liked the idea of starting a company where women do a “man’s job.” She also figured women would feel safer hiring an all-female moving service, and so the company was born.

Van Girls has been a considerable success, which is awesome because the moving company industry seems like a huge racket anyway (anyone trying to improve it has my vote of confidence). Lanman says that most of their clientele are women, but men hire them often too, if for nothing more than the novelty. She says one of her favorite things is being able to move something that her male clients can’t.

This just goes to show you, nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it, and add a few ladies into the mix.
