Discover the art of Freya Jobbins, who creates sculptures made of discarded doll parts.

I have always been of the mindset that art is subjective, but I am personally most intrigued by art when it is a little disturbing. I think art should push the boundaries of what you think is socially acceptable, so the artwork of Freya Jobbins is right up my alley, since she creates her unusual sculptures from used up doll parts.

Based in Australia, Freya Jobbins refers to herself as a ‘plastic surgeon’ because she uses pieces of dolls and toys to create totally disturbing human faces and forms. She collects her materials from second hand sources, reinforcing the importance of reusing and recycling. Of her sculptures, Jobbins says:

“I am interested in generating a range of responses to existing cultural objects, which have been placed out of context. The irony of my plastic works is that I take a material that was created to be touched, and I make it untouchable as an artwork.”

Whether or not you can stomach looking at her sculptures, you have to admit that once you do, its kind of hard to look away.
