I admit this is more of a “Hey — what songs are out there that mention baking?”-list rather than a “Songs I Actually Listen To”-list. But…I think you’ll be pleased by the breadth. No matter which genre is your favorite, there’s surely a song below for you to play over and over again the next time you channel Betty Crocker.
1. Apple, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie — Jay & The Techniques. They played this song repeatedly at the APC Crisco National Pie Championships in 2007. And for good reason.
2. American Pie — Don McLean. The classic.
3. Cherry Pie — Warrant. Because sometimes you really want to rock out in the kitchen?
4. I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) — Four Tops. So happy!
5. Pie — Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could. For the kid in you?
6. Key Lime Pie — Kenny Chesney. Just because it didn’t work out with Renee Zellweger, doesn’t mean he can’t carry a tune.
7. Sweet Potato Pie — James Taylor and Ray Charles. Legends! Pie! What more could you ask for?
8. Jiggable Pie — AMG. A little risque, perhaps…but who says bakers have to be prudes?
9. Pie — Debi Smith. Truer words were never spoken.
10. Apple Pie a la Mode — Destiny’s Child. If all the single ladies whipped up one of these, perhaps they’d find the way to a man’s heart?
11. Rhubarb Pie — John Fogerty. Tap your foot as you bake it.
12. Cookie Jar — Gym Class Heroes. Try not to dance around the kitchen. I dare you.
13. Cookie Jar — Jack Johnson. Oh, Jack. Go on with your bad self.
14. Cookie — The Presets. C-c-c-catchy.
15. Cookie — Master P. Learn to love America’s Most Luved Bad Guy.
16. Cookie — Jean Leloup. French pop!
17. Cake — Lloyd Banks featuring 50 Cent. Go shorty.
18. Cake — Lil Wyte. Sing along, but actually about cake-cake.
19. Kisses and Cake — John Powell. Aww.
20. Shake & Bake — Young Jeezy. Repeat after me: “And I helped.”
21. Wake ‘n Bake — Simplified. Happy, if not entirely grammatically correct.
22. Mama Bake a Pie — Tom T. Hall. Slowing things down a bit…
23. Wake and Bake — Asylum Street Spankers. Apples and pears, baby. Apples and pears.
24. I’ll Bake Me a Man — Barbara Acklin. Amen, sister.
25. Nobody in Town Can Bake a Sweet Jelly Roll Like Mine — Bessie Smith. And she means it.
26. Bake my Pie — Vinnie and the Stardusters. Hmm…
27. Bake that Chicken Pie — Uncle Dave Macon and the Fruit Jar Guzzlers. Kind of “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” no?
28. I’m Gonna Bake My Biscuits — Little Miss Higgins. That’s right.
this makes me hungry. for a jelly roll.
