Today in news stories that make me want to vom: a Kansas man raped a woman in broad daylight, in front of witnesses. His excuse? “I thought she was dead.”
While the victim doesn’t recall the assault (due to having passed out from the heat), her underwear was removed and Melvin Jackson, the accused rapist, was literally caught with his pants down. A witness stated that she saw Jackson penetrating the woman, who was in the fetal position. According to the Kansas City Star, “When the officer asked Jackson about his pants, Jackson allegedly said he touched ‘a lady’s leg,’ and ‘I thought that lady was dead.’”
What in the fuck? The witness scared Jackson off of the victim only after being alerted to the assault by another witness. How in god’s name, with multiple people walking around, did this happen? How did this bro get hard, get his dick out, and penetrate someone in the middle of the street before anyone was like, “Oh shit, maybe we should do something about that man fucking a passed out woman on the sidewalk over there”? Why wasn’t anyone concerned about a passed out woman prior to her getting raped?
Unfortunately, Jackson’s inability to tell the difference between a dead person and a live one could play in his favor. There’s no federal law against necrophilia, and while many states have their own policies on the matter, Kansas isn’t one of them. I sincerely hope this woman doesn’t continue to be punished by her fucked up community. Get it together, Kansas.
