Okay, you try coming up with a witty blog title about nail polish. Not so easy.
While my headline states the obvious, this post isn’t about nails, skin, ears, or any other body parts that most people have. No my friends, it’s about how to make your nails different and special from everyone else’s boring, played out nails. So pay attention.
If you’re me and you’re going to get your nails did, you used to walk into the salon, spend all of 2.5 seconds picking a color, and regret it once it’s done and over with– BUT you don’t say anything, you just passive aggressively smile at the nice lady who is about to give you a mind-blowing massage and say something like, “Wow. My cuticles are immaculate. Thanks.” Then you high-tail it out of there and everytime you look down at your hands for the next week or so, you’re thinking about the fifteen dollars that once was. Those were the days, huh? Now it’s like, welllllll I could get my nails done every week, OR I could do it myself and buy 2.5 more dranks this weekend to reconcile the fact that I used to be able to afford both. Make that 3.5 drinks and throw in a waxing-to-tweezing transition.
If you’re going to play manicurist at home, don’t go blindly into the night. Allow me to guide you.
First of all, it’s summer now (or so I’ve been told), and I know that Twilight is all super-cool and such, but really– no more black nail polish. Save that shit for the fall and winter, which will eventually be the only two seasons left (as is evidenced by the crazy weather and the death of Michael Jackson– both crystal clear signs of the apocalypse).
Renowned Vegas make-up artist Mo Lewit is a fan of blues this summer. “Blue has never been so cool. From navy to teal to deep sky, women are wearing these shades on both their fingers and toes.” She recommends OPI’s Teal The Cows Come Home, but I’m a big fan of Orly Nail Laquer‘s Calypso Breeze.
If blue isn’t your thing, any of Orly’s summer colors can take you from blah to bangin’ before you can lift a festive middle finger to that construction worker who just cat called you.
Another great brand to put a spin on bright polish this summer is China Glaze. Their Kickscollection is off the chains– and guaranteed to match any Bapes or Air Max ’95s you can get your ghetto fab hands on. Ash thinks Sky-High-Top is thebomb.com, while I’m a fan of Oh So Street. Other hoodrat colors include It’s Poppin, Paper Chasing, and Custom Kicks.
Check out Orly and China Glaze online for more great collections.
