Chicago: A city of extreme leisure

Written by Gary

Don’t feed the wildlife.

One of the best things about visiting Chicago was how relaxed everyone seemed to be. Being from New York, we are used to people running around the city with unnecessary haste and toxic amounts of caffeine rushing through their veins. New York’s energy is vibrant and incessant–if you don’t learn to manage it eventually your head will explode and steam will pour out. Chicago, however, has a more laid back vibe. Everywhere we looked in the windy city we saw people just sitting around taking random breaks from their lives. People meditated, napped, lounged, ambled, and did yoga in public. At first we didn’t understand what was going on, but after a day or so we caught ourselves walking a little slower, sitting down a little more, and taking pleasure in breathing the clean, pristine air and sun dappled grass.

Naturally, we looked at the strange phenomenon of relaxation as an experiment and snapped some photos.

Bathroom signs come to life.

Mid-Afternoon stretch in Millenium Park.

Snacking on a Subway sandwich while enjoying the theater.

Counting pennies at a reflection pool.

Some nervous-looking groomsmen taking last minute photos.
