A Waterfall Underneath the Water? Several Reasons to Visit the Island of Mauritius

Recently, the island of Mauritius is making its rounds on the Internet like a stripper at a bachelorette party due to its “underwater waterfall”, an optical illusion made of sand and silt that is basically glorified sand art. You can’t see anything when you are actually close to it, but from an aerial view the sediment creates the illusion of a beautiful waterfall. Since most tourists to Mauritius won’t actually get to view this phenomenon (unless you want to shell out some paper for a helicopter ride), I thought I would find a few other reasons to visit the island.

Mauritius started out as a French colony, so if you are into smelly French guys that live a laid back lifestyle, it might be the place for you.

Mauritius is located in the Indian Ocean, 1,200 miles off Africa. So after you stop by Africa real quick to adopt a baby, you can take said baby to Mauritius and enjoy your first vacation as a mother.

Most Mauritians are multi-lingual, so no matter what language you speak, you will probably still be able to ask where to buy tampons (Your vagina always ruins your beach vacations, doesn’t it?!)

Mauritius is the only known home of the dodo bird. Even though that stupid thing is extinct, that is still a pretty good selling point, #amiright ?

Education in Mauritius is free, so if you are looking to escape your life and raise your kids in a tropical environment, you can rest assured that they won’t grow up to be dodos. Yes, I am aware that was a stupid joke. Can I get a courtesy laugh at least?
