4. The Outer Banks. Everyone has heard of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, but how many people actually make a habit of going there? Not enough, because the natural sand dunes, fresh seafood, built-on-the-sand homes, and wild horses make the entire place a slice of extraordinary. Few people realize that the wild horses that live on this water-surrounded oasis are actually the descendants of the escaped horses brought over by Spanish explorers over 500 years ago.
