A vial of whiskey matured in outer space is coming back to Earth.
Nowadays you can do anything in space, including burying your animals and creating liquor. A whiskey company called Ardberg sent a bunch of whiskey into space three years ago, storing it in charred oak on the International Space Station. The unmatured malt was sent to the ISS on an unmanned spacecraft, and has been orbiting the earth at 17,227 mph for 1,045 days.
The goal was to see how gravity affects the distillation process of whiskey, and the sample will be compared to boring old Earth whiskey to see if there is any difference. The vial of Ardberg whiskey touches down on September 12th, to be tested by scientists in Houston in a bid to revolutionize the whiskey-distillation process.
