Babies Love Summer, That’s A Scientific Fact

Written by Bryce

There are a couple things I know with a great degree of certainty- babies love finger foods and summer, and anything else is just sort of grey matter. While warm weather offers all the best of activities, it can also be harsh on the sensitive skin and hair of our little angels, so I’ve rounded up a list of my must-have baby items for the season (and obviously any baby of mine is into skincare from day 1).

1. Seat ’em right. Before I even mosey on over to proper baby skincare, let me just say that it all begins with diet. A properly fed baby is a happy, healthy baby. In this house that means a ton of fruits, veggies, and a lot of whole grains like rice and oatmeal. My 8 month old daughter (pictured above) sits like a champ in her little STOKKE Tripp Trapp chair for each meal, teaching her little baby table manners and helping her develop back and neck muscle tone. This particular adjusts in a bunch of ways to fit everyone from teeny tiny babies to 3 year olds on steroids. Personally the design and color selection make it appealing enough for me. Available here.

2. The fancy French stuff. You know when it comes to fashion, I’m a high-low gal. Mix a Balenciaga bag with a Gap t-shirt, why not? And my parenting style is just the same. I invest in good staples: furniture, food, skincare. When it comes to things like onesies and diapers, we cheap out all the way. This L’Oreal Professionnel shampoo for kids smells delish, is gentle on baby, and leaves locks super smooth. And I may or may not’ve swiped some for myself in the shower last night. It’s paraben-free, full of natural stuff, and smells like peach pie. Available discreetly here (it’s hard to find in the US, but worth it).

3. Everyone loves body butter, face it. Remember in high school when everyone gave Secret Santa body butters from The Body Shop? Or was that just my school (although I’m pretty sure it happened at like 90 percent of all schools with girls)? And then by college we all just sort of shopped for our own body butters that we were eerily addicted to for their effectiveness and scent? Well, they make BABY BODY BUTTER NOW, PEOPLE. Obsessed. Literally obsessed. It’s full of natural goodness, is light and hydrating, fun to use, and never tested on animals. Available at The Body Shop.

4. Semi-first aid is basically preventative medicine, I say. Anyone with a baby will tell you that preventing diaper rash is a personal mission much like saving the world, preventing animal cruelty, or recycling. It’s just goodness. Grandma Minnie’s makes an oil that’s a hybrid between happiness, magic, and a baby day spa. The oil is made with ingredients like organic virgin coconut oil to seal in moisture, protect baby from skin irritations, and prevent the use of mineral oils (if you’re not in the know, baby oil found at drugstore is basically glorified mineral oil- found to irritate and actually dehydrate sensitive skin over time). Available here.
