New Year’s resolutions usually have something to do with getting healthy – maybe it’s for weight loss, maybe it’s for heart health, but what about for your skin? I’m sure you’ve heard that certain foods affect your skin in positive and negative ways, but if you’re like me, then you always sort of forget the specific foods you should be adding to your grocery list to get an amazing complexion (and healthy bod) for 2013.
Here they are:
Tomatoes – buy these to combat free-radicals AKA protect against sun damage. Lycopene is the magic phytochemical, and it’s even more magical when they’re heated up!
Mangoes – Washed out? Skip the tanning bed and eat some mangoes! They’re filled with carotenoids, which are stored right beneath the skin and can improve skin color.
Cocoa powder – Flavonals, which are the delicious antioxidants in dark chocolate, improve skin’s texture and protect it from UV rays. Guess you’ll just have to drink some hot cocoa.
Flaxseeds – These are little wrinkle fighters. just a half teaspoon daily can also reduce irritation and redness and improve skin hydration.
Sweet potatoes – They stimulate the production of collagen (smooth out wrinkles) because they’re packed with vitamin C.
Mussels – A three ounce serving of these gives you a third of your daily recommended amount of iron. What does this mean for your skin? Lack of iron makes you look pale and pasty.
Spinach – Eating spinach is an effective way to prevent skin cancer. Its folate helps maintain and repair DNA.
