Bermuda Shipwrecks: Discovery At Your Hands

Ocean diving to discover Bermuda’s shipwrecks is beyond the normal beach vacation.

Bermuda has more than 300 wreck diving sites off its shores, each with a diverse array of marine wildlife and fish, many of which are unique to Bermudian waters. The island is home to more than 400 years of underwater maritime history, as its wrecks range from famous Spanish galleons to freighters and war ships from the late 1900’s.

Most of these dive sites are also within a short boat ride of the shore, sometimes as close as five minutes away from the docks of popular resorts and diving excursion starting points. In addition to shipwrecks, the island is also surrounded by 200 miles of healthy coral reefs for divers and snorkelers to explore.

Did you know Bermuda’s largest shipwreck, the Cristobol Colon, which measures 499 feet in length, was also listed on Scuba Diving Magazine’s “Top 100 Gold List?” If you’re an avid diver, venture off on your own to find photographic gold (almost as good as a treasure, right?). If you’re unsure of your diving skills, go for a snorkel tour like this one:
