Big Apple–meet the Big Easy

Written by Maura

I was born and raised in New York but decided Alabama was as good a place as any for college. When asked later why I chose Mobile as my new city my response was always “temporary moment of insanity” but truth be told I really do love the south. One of my favorite southern traditions that I happily participate in is crawfish boils! I loooove them. Almost as much as I miss real pizza(i.e. NOT Papa Johns or Dominoes) when I’m down south, I miss crawfish boils when I come back home. It consists of a huge pot, lots of crawfish, corn, potatoes, lots of yummy cajun spices and is like Mardi Gras in your mouth. (Speaking of Mardi Gras, if you’ve never been to New Orleans for that insanity, do it–put it on your bucket list right now, I’m serious.)

Because of my love for this messy yet delightful activity it makes me so happy to share that tonight all of my New York hometown lovelies can go enjoy a crawfish boil right here in the city. Duane Park is having a crawfish and shrimp(for those of you scared of crawfish) boil this Thursday and every Thursday night in June. They have crawfish flown in from Louisiana and serve it with creole fries and roasted local corn. You can come for the food and stay for the music, because there will be live entertainment (different band or performer every Thursday.) This is great to do with a group of friends–its something different and fun and I promise you will not be disappointed!!
