Chinese Flower Head Accessories = A Thing, Why?

China has become obsessed with hair accessories that look like tiny flowers growing from people’s heads.

Damn it, Asia, you never cease to amaze me. Today, I am happy to report that I have another strange trend out of Asia to make fun of. People in China are going crazy for hair accessories that make it look like plants are sprouting from their heads. Chinese flower head accessories are officially the new black and we can’t figure out why.

The hair clips are made of plastic, cost about $.50 each, and come in all different styles from flowers to bean sprouts, vegetables, and even peppers. The original version was just the bean sprout, but clearly China wanted to take its selfie game to the next level, so other options were quickly created.

The trend started in Beijing, but quickly spread throughout the country, and now people are clamoring over themselves to look like they have a garden growing from their hair, which is actually kind of gross if you stop to think about it.

No fashion trend that ever comes out of Asia surprises me. I would much prefer to have a plastic body part jutting out of my head, however. It’s probably only a matter of time before a sexy version of these clips comes out, right?
