Decor Spotting: Black and White done right

Written by Gary

Decorating in black and white is tricky. At its best, a black and white home can be a clever mix of simple elegance with a shabby chic vibe. At its worst, it can resemble the inside of a zebra’s a**hole or a 30 dollar set of neutrals and chrome from Scarface. The trick to decorating in black and white is to pair old pieces with the new, and find understated ways to bring modernism into the room – for instance by using more modern prints with antique frames, or vintage prints framed in simple black. The most important rule to remember is to allow faint touches of color in the room by playing off the natural colors such as a tiled floor, implementing a subtle brass lantern, or adding a houseplant with bright white blooms.
