Design style color inspiration: Fossil box art

Written by Gary

Get your decoration on, girl!

Every single time I go to redecorate a room (or help someone, since being gay automatically makes me a professional) the first question I ask is: Color?

We all have favorite colors–but when decorating a room it is preferable to choose a smattering of colors that make you feel comfortable, but aren’t necessarily familiar to you. My favorite color right now is burnt orange, but a room that color would make me feel like I was sleeping in Foxy Brown’s velvet hot-pants.

She’s not my type.

I remember my exes bedroom was a pale blue color and every time I woke up there I was uncomfortably and sad because of the color and then instantly mad because he was a douche-bag. That is a lot of emotion every morning.

Color is important. It can affect our moods, calm our nerves, and it is undoubtedly the trickiest element and decision to make when decorating a room. My secret weapon to deciding on color can be found at many major and minor retailers around the country: Fossil Boxes.

I know–you are asking yourself what I could possibly know about box.

At the core, the most difficult element to color design is finding colors that complement each other and play well together. The designers of the tin watch boxes at Fossil have the art of combining colors down to a science.

So if you are clueless about color, go to a local department store or Century 21 and take a look at the tin Fossil boxes. Rather than concentrate on the logos or images, just focus on the color combos and how they work together. Then snap a photo with your phone and take the image to Home Depot where they can basically color match anything.

Choosing a palette that is out of your comfort zone is a way to create a new space for yourself, take a risk, and have some fun with design. Fossil boxes can serve as the perfect inspiration.
