Drunken Beauty Has Real Benefits

Written by Bryce

Just more evidence that wine is the nectar of the Gods.

If you’re always looking for an excuse for more wine in your life, don’t worry, the girls at EndlessBeauty just might’ve given us all enough reason to enjoy some Cabernet with dinner tonight… or at least slather it on your skin:

If dehydration is your complexion concern, you’ll love grape seed oil. It’s made by cold pressing the grape seeds after they’ve been used to make wine. The stuff is loaded with linoleic acid, a fatty acid moisturizer that’s found naturally in our own bodies. That’s why the oil is so easily absorbed, doesn’t feel greasy on the skin, and won’t clog pores. It’s the perfect moisturizer for all skin types, even acne-prone, as it also acts as an anti-inflammatory.

And we can’t forget the body benefits of grapes and wine. Crushed grape seeds make for a great exfoliant, while grape seed oil is often used in massages as it boasts circulation-boosting powers in addition to being richly hydrating.

And if you’re just into wine in general, that’s cool, us too. Check out these pretty awesome facts:

  1. Early Roman women were forbidden to drink wine, and a husband who found his wife drinking was at liberty to kill her. Divorce on the same grounds was last recorded in Rome in 194 B.C.
  2. The world’s oldest bottle of wine dates back to A.D. 325 and was found near the town of Speyer, Germany, inside one of two Roman sarcophaguses. It is on display at the town’s Historisches Museum der Pfalz.
  3. There is increasing scientific evidence that moderate, regular wine drinking can reduce the risk of heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, and gum disease.
  4. While wine offers certain medical benefits, it may slightly increase the risk of contracting certain kinds of cancer of the digestive tract, particularly the esophagus. There is also a slightly increased risk of breast cancer.
  5. Red wine, typically more than white wine, has antioxidant properties and contains resveratrol, which seems to be important in the cardio-protective effects of wine.
  6. California, New York, and Florida lead the United States in wine consumption.
  7. California is the fourth-largest wine producer in the world, after France, Italy, and Spain.
