The city was established in 312 BC, which means it is older than Sharon Stone’s first nose.

Petra is Jordan’s most visited tourist attraction, famous for its intricate rock-cut architectural style and watering system.

In 1917, Lawrence of Arabia defended the city from the Turkish military, even recruiting Bedouin women to fight for the cause.

The site was used for many films such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Arabian Nights, Mortal Kombat; Annihilation, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Petra was watered by a perennial stream, which ancient settlers used to create an artificial oasis. The people used dams and cisterns to trap water from flash-floods and create a flourishing city in the desert.
