Food Synergy: Combinations to Try and Why

Written by rosetta

You can optimize your body’s nutrient absorption simply by combining the right foods with food synergy.

We’ve all been told, heard, and read to “eat our fruits and veggies” — but how many of us know that we can make such foods even more beneficial to our health, just from pairing it with a biocompatible product?

Food synergy is a science which considers combining certain foods based on their biochemical components to create positive chemistry within the body. This “chemistry” not only increases your nutrient absorption, but enhances your digestion.

Below are five combinations to consider in your next meal prep, and why:

1. Avocado + Tomato

Some of us may already — on a subconscious level, pair this delicious combo in salads or salsas — but did you know that both, the avocado and tomato, become even more nutritious when eaten together? Tomatoes, which contain a chemical compound, carotenoids, hold antioxidants which reduce the risk of cancer and diseases. This compound cannot be absorbed in the body, though, unless they are delivered with fat. Avocados, and even olive oil, digest well with tomatoes and facilitate the body’s absorption of carotenoid’s beneficial properties.

2. Fish + Herbs

Fish has recently been discouraged to eat in large quantities as a result of its heavy metal contamination (such as mercury). Herbs such as cilantro and parsley, which are known detoxifiers to remove heavy metal traces from the body, “clean” the fish.

3. Green Tea + Lemon

As you may know, green tea is one of the healthiest drinks on the planet — who would’ve thought it could get any healthier? By squeezing fresh lemon juice in your green tea, the green tea’s antioxidant count increases, and your body absorbs more vitamin C. The green tea and lemon are dependent on each other for optimal nutrient-absorption in the body.

4. Apples + Grapes

One of apples’ forefront antioxidants, quercetin, which is known to alleviate respiratory issues as well as reduce risks of cancer, works wonders when paired with catechin, a flavonoid found in purple grapes. The two strengthen the blood thereby lowering the risk of blood cots and heart disease!

5. Red Wine + Almonds

Reservatrol, an anti-aging antioxidant found in red wine, becomes increasingly beneficial to the body when consumed with vitamin E (found in foods such as almonds). The two paired together thin blood, improving your blood pressure and circulation…and who wouldn’t want red wine and almonds?
