Four Fragrance Trends for 2010

Picking the perfect perfume can take a toll on your nose. Smelling fragrance after fragrance, trying to find that special one that overwhelms you with memories from the past, helps you find the confidence to take a chance at love, or simply lift you bad mood to one that’s more cheerful. “Whatever your reason for buying perfume, it’s a highly personal experience that will always be attainable luxury that creates an escape for you and whatever is happening in your life,” says Kate Greene,  Vice President of Marketing, at Givaudan Fine Fragrance. Here’s your sneak peek at four fragrance trends to look out for at a beauty counter near you!

1.)   LOOK TO THE PAST: With the current economic stress, you should expect to see a return to nostalgia. Comfort and nostalgia is what we turn to when times are difficult, which often leads to big, bold floral scents. Recently,  the big, bold floral perfumes have been bestsellers due to the current economic recession. In the next couple months while searching for that new scent, be on the lookout for new perfumes that will be dominated by floral notes that were loved by your mom and grandma, such as rose and violet.

2.)   SPOT A BRIGHTER FUTURE: For perfumes that are launching in 2010, you should expect bold, exciting, and fantasy. Perfumes this year will be more experimental with vibrant and technicolor ingredients says Greene. However, if bold and exciting is not your style, sophisticated, rich scents are also in the now, edging out the light citrus and watery florals, as the heart and soul of new perfumes on the market. Be on the lookout for perfumes with warm, woody notes, such as sandalwood, amber and resin that have character. “These strong wood senses have long been associated with men’s fragrances, but the line between men and women’s fragrances have been blurred for quite some time” says, Mary Ellen Lapsansky, Vice President of the Fragrance Foundation.
