Fun Spotting: Pre-Valentine’s Mixer at the Royalton New York

Flashdancers, martini stickers, and posh seating areas – best party ever!

Last week, my co-workers and I had the pleasure of attending a pre-Valentine’s Day mixer, the CBX V-day Affair party at the Royalton New York – and boy, did we meet some characters! In a sea of plaid shirts and ill-fitting navy sport jackets, I spotted the gentleman in the photo above in a flash (ironically his shirt sort of reminds me of “Flashdance”). You don’t wear a western style vibrant red sateen shirt with naked girls embroidered on the front unless you want some attention, so I figured I would give him some.

My team and I were at the event to seek out fun, exciting, corky, creepy, or unconventional stories of how people met for the first time, and low and behold, did Flashdance (hereafter referred to as Red) deliver! Red and his lady friend allegedly met at a dance class where Red was the instructor and Lady Friend a student. Oh, and did I mention it was a pole dancing class?! Amazeballs 3006. We knew we weren’t going to top that story for the rest of the night, and got to enjoy ourselves over fruity cocktails in one of the most posh, multi-level lounges in Midtown the rest of the evening, mingling with fellow single ladies and gents.

One of the sponsors of the event was the new app Crowded Room, an app that can be used to find a date without the stress and drama of an online dating commitment. I found it to be a great icebreaker for networking, finding friends with similar hobbies, or one could even find a new “someone special” right in close vicinity to wherever they are. It uses Facebook profile information, to suggest people nearby that have similar interests or common friends, and users can send quick messages directly through the app to people they’d like to meet (whatever their agenda)! So basically, we came to a mixer with the sole purpose of being anti-social and on our phones the whole time?! Regardless, we met some fascinating people on a fun app and the event was a smash hit!

Here is a quick pic of event organizer, Blondie Bombshell, posing with our very own Gary Randall – so as you can see, it was a very attractive crowd! Look closely and you will notice that Bombshell is wearing a sticker of two olives; this meant that she was taken. Although you can’t see it, Gary was wearing the other sticker, a martini glass, which signaled that he was single. Beautiful people, fun new apps, fancy cocktails, and martini stickers – #bestpartyever.
