I know, I know – this is long overdue. My many apologies to those who have been dying to hear about my week at Ludlow Fitness and how awesome this place is!
So here’s the lowdown:
Membership: 2,500+, a predominantly younger crowd
Location: 100 Delancey Street, Lower East Side; near F, J, M, Z at Delancey-Essex subway stop. The only fitness club to call the LES home, it’s super convenient for those who live in the area, and not incredibly inconvenient for those who don’t. A short 10-minute walk from SoHo, and a 5-minute train ride from Downtown Brooklyn or anywhere below 14th St on the F, I would say going the extra mile is worth the money you’ll save.
Hours: Monday-Friday: 5:30 AM – Midnight; Saturday & Sunday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Pricing/Packages: Truly, this is the first gym I’ve ever come across that genuinely holds the consumer’s best interest at heart. All four of their packages are recession budget-friendly, and there are no obnoxious cancellation fees. Here’s a rundown of their pricing:Â
Month-to-Month: $49/month + a $49 one-time initiation fee
1 Month: $75
3 Months: $219
6 Months: $319
One Year: $469
Classes: Ludlow offers a great variety of 55-minute classes and at convenient times for those working 9-5’s, with the schedule being early morning and evening heavy. While I only personally exprienced the Spinning® class, the line-up also includes (but isn’t limited to) Body Sculpting, Yoga, Pilates, and Boxing sessions. Â
Equipment/Facilities:Â With ten treadmills, eight ellipticals, and a healthy selection of strength traning machines, the gym seems sufficiently outfitted with equipment for it’s intimate space and membership. Ludlow includes the essential equipment to work your entire body, but expect no fancy frills while sweating it out. The locker rooms are clean and somewhat small, but offer all the basic amenities for showering up following your workout.
Customer Service: Superb. Upon walking in every day, I was immediately greeted with genuine warmth.  The owner, Mason Goldberg, was extremely helpful in guiding me through the beginnings of my marathon-geared training, and was quick to offer up some important tips for my first Spinning® venture. On another occasion, a staffer offered to safely hold my belongings behind the desk because I forgot my lock (which they lend to customers). Ludlow’s four person staff was probably the most courteous and friendly staff I’ve encountered yet, which in my opinion, is one of the most endearing qualities any gym could possibly have.
Overall:Â Honestly, this is one the my favorite gyms that I’ve experienced in my few years of being a part-time gym rat. I truly felt like a valued customer every day that I stepped inside, and the atmosphere was unpretentious and laid-back, so I felt comfortable enough to ask any questions I had without feeling like a newbie. I actually prefer their “no frills” approach to working out, and the pricing agrees with my budget, so I highly recommend heading over to Ludlow to give it a go. For $49 a month, how can you say no?
