Goldfish tea is all the rage in Japan.
I am a pretty avid tea drinker. While I am not the kind of tea drinker that is willing to walk into a Teavana and spend $50 on some leaves, I am the type of guy that brews his own green tea pretty much every day in honor of the light caffeine and deep health benefits. Between my love of tea and my distaste for seafood, I am happy I can have a tolerable level of both in goldfish tea, which is apparently a thing.
Goldfish tea has officially become a thing in Japan, and so naturally I am the right guy to cover it. I know we talk a lot about weird, disgusting foods here on TLS, but goldfish tea is actually just a goldfish-shaped tea bag that looks like it swims when you pull the string.
Created by a creative agency out of Taipei called Charm Villa, the tea bags are hand made in a series of 16 steps, and have already collected two prestigious design awards. They are available on Amazon (for a ridiculously inflated price), or in Taiwan, if you should find yourself on that side of the world.

In the past decade, tea culture has really become a thing. I’m actually shocked that more companies aren’t taking the initiative to turn tea-bagging into a culture of its own.
Since goldfish represent wealth and good fortune in Asia, it can’t hurt to have a little goldfish tea to start your day, right? Although if you can afford $80 for 12 tea bags I am going to assume your wealth and fortune is already on point.

I would most definitely try this if I had the opportunity. I’m game for anything… Once 🙂
