Homeless Man in Russia Becomes Famous Online

A homeless man in Russia goes viral on the Internet.

I wasn’t aware they had the Internet in Russia, so all of this is news to me. A homeless man that lives on the streets in Moscow has found fame, and hopefully fortune by video blogging. Called the ‘bum-blogger’, Zhenya Yakut started recording videos of his life to show people a side of Moscow that they hadn’t seen. He quickly gained 35,000 subscribers, and some of his videos have half a million hits.

Yakut, 43, has been homeless for five years and got the idea from a show he saw on a TV in a railway station about bloggers.

His videos cover subjects such as where to sleep, where to eat, and what to see. He invites people into his living quarters in manhole underground, and even gives people interactive challenges, such as to find $10 he hid in a bottle somewhere in the city.

As someone who has always toyed with the idea of pretending to be homeless for a day just to see what happens, I am kind of in love with this idea. I will tell you though, that Moscow is the LAST place I would choose to be homeless. I have never understood why all homeless people don’t just flock to Florida.
