Yeah, Jillian!! You go girl!!
Now that Bachelorette Jillian Harris plans to move to Chicago with fiancé Ed Swiderski, I’m hoping I’ll run into her and we’ll become BFFs. I started watching this season only after I caught a portion of the episode where they’re in Seville, Spain – she was wearing the cutest little black jumpsuit, and her hair was gorgeous. I ended up watching almost the entire rest of the season online just to get a better look at Jillian’s hair and wardrobe.
Until I can ask her in person how she styles her hair, I came up with a little technique of my own that I think comes close to Jillian’s own flowy, voluminous style:
Let your hair air-dry halfway, then blow-dry the rest of the way.
Then, take about a two-inch section of hair and your straightening iron. Clamp the straightening iron onto the section of hair, and twist your wrist so that the heating plates are facing your scalp. This will twist the section of hair toward your head a little bit – continue to twist it by wrapping the section of hair around the straightening iron, in the same direction.
After you’ve twisted and wrapped, you should hold the ends of your hair out away from your head with your free hand. Meanwhile, pull the straightening iron down toward the ends of your hair. It will look like you’re straightening your hair, but at the end, when the hair comes out of the straightening iron, it will have a twist to it from being wrapped around the iron.
Repeat all over your head, until you have a head full of waves. I think the waves you get from a straightening iron are more natural and relaxed than what you can normally do with a curling iron.
Scrunch with a volumizing mousse, separate the curls and then style – you can pin up one side, like Jillian often does, or pull all your hair back into a huge, cascading side ponytail.

niceeeeeee i’m so trying this!
I’m not sure if I get what you mean when you said:
Clamp the straightening iron onto the section of hair, and twist your wrist so that the heating plates are facing your scalp. This will twist the section of hair toward your head a little bit – continue to twist it by wrapping the section of hair around the straightening iron, in the same direction.
Could you perhaps rephrase it for me? Thanks!
yeah, sorry, I think this is better explained visually. I found a short YouTube clip that shows what I mean:

The only difference is the girl in this video is twisting away from her head instead of toward — but it results in the same effect.
Thanks for your question Jessica :).
