How To: Pick the Right Short Hairstyle

Written by Bryce

Short hair is the look du jour, but it’s a big risk to take if you don’t have a clue about which short hairstyle will be right for your face shape. We caught up with some of the best stylists and hair experts in the land to help simplify an otherwise daunting beauty task.

Square or Round Face: The Short Pixie

Wella Professionals Celebrity Stylist, Andy LeCompte explains, “the cut is flattering on many different face shapes, but it draws attention to all of your facial features so being comfortable with yourself is a must. In general if you have a square or round face a shorter style pixie cut with volume in the crown will look best because it draws attention away from your jawline and gives the impression of an elongated face shape.

Heart or Oval Shape Faces: Relaxed Pixie Cut

Andy explains, “I love the pixie cut for heart and oval shaped faces especially those with delicate facial features.” For a longer style pixie, he recommends using a couple drops of Wella Professionals Oil Reflections, which will help shape the hair and also give it the perfect amount of shine.

Round Face: Chin Length Bob

If you’re not ready bare it all, Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Celebrity Stylist, Ben Skervin suggests going for a bob.

“The short ‘do can be styled a variety of ways – create a deep side part with a fringe, a piecier, more textured style or slick hair back for a sleek, sophisticated look,” contributes Herbal Essences Celebrity Stylist, Charles Baker Strahan. He recommends “The Argan Oil essences in the Herbal Essences Moroccan My Shine Collection aid in styling short hair by providing a healthy and shiny base with lightweight body that won’t weigh short hair down.”

 Long Face: Mid Cheek Bob

Ben Skervin, celeb stylist at Wella Professionals, suggests “a mid-cheek bob is good for a long face as it make the face seem shorter.” Try something shaggy, fun, and easy to update like this:
