Guess is rolling out a new fragrance, Guess by Marciano. Perfumer Laurent Le Guernec describes it as “Effervescent Woody Orientalâ€, and it comes in a masculine square shouldered brown bottle to match the vibe.
I don’t wear a ton of cologne, but I do like a subtle masculine scent hovering in the background. My current favorite is Emporio Armani, a musky and woodsy spice. I was therefore amped to try out Guess’s latest offering, especially after seeing their diagram of scents:
I spritzed a cloud of Guess in the air, and pranced through it as instructed by the office ladies. This was greatly amusing for them.
On first inhalation, Guess by Marciano seems too sweet and too strong. The florals and spices leap out at you with Glade Plug-In intensity, and it has a very feminine quality. As the scent fades, it becomes nicer and more nuanced. Our panel of experts generally agreed.
The verdict: Ok, not great. Far from becoming a favorite, but I’ll use it again in extreme moderation on a nice summer evening.
Matt
