DIY Joan Smalls Hair

Joan Smalls’ hair game was on point at the WSJ Magazine party earlier this week. Celeb stylist Jennifer Yepez shows us how to nail the look, DIY style.

4 simple steps to achieving this modelesque Joan Smalls hair look at home:

1. Prep damp hair by applying René Furterer VOLUMEA volumizing foam – no rinse all over from roots to ends. For curly or wavy hair, use a big round brush to blow dry hair section-by-section the hair. For straight hair, just rough dry the hair with your hands until it’s completely dry.

2. To protect hair from heat damage before using a curling iron, spritz a thermal protector like René Furterer LISSEA Thermal protecting spray all over.

3. Starting at the back of your hair, take a section and pin the rest of your hair up. Using a 1-inch curling iron, curl your hair from mid-shaft down, keeping the ends of your hair out of the iron. This gives it the undone beachy waves look. Make sure to keep the curling iron vertical to your head to get nice waves. Curl the rest of your hair by unpinning one section at a time.

4. Once the hair is curled, use a wide tooth comb to comb out your hair into loose waves. Part your hair slightly, and spray René Furterer VEGETAL FINISHING SPRAY over the top of hair to smooth out any fly-aways, and then lightly all over to keep waves lasting all night long.

Boom, Joan Smalls hair is now your hair, too.
