An Australian rodent is the first mammal to go extinct because of climate change.
For those people who truly believe that climate change isn’t a real threat, try telling that to the Bramble Cay Meloymys rodent. Oh wait, you can’t because they are all totally dead.
The rat-like mammal only lived off the coast of Queensland Australia, but because of rising sea levels as a result of global warming, his home habitat was completely flooded and the species was wiped out. The University of Queensland reports that this is the first official mammal to go extinct as a result of climate change. Of course this may not seem like such a big deal, but researchers believe that if temperatures keep rising, one in six species on the planet could face their own extinction.
