A Flamingo had to be euthanized after a man attacked it in Tampa.
Being from Florida, I expect a few bits of complete fuckery to come out on the news now and then, but killing flamingos is just wrong.
An Orlando man was arrested this week after visiting Busch Gardens, for basically murdering a flamingo. Joseph Anthony Corrao, 45, was visiting the theme park made by a beer company with his mother, brother, and three teenage kids. Apparently he got a little feisty at the flamingo pen (called Jambo Junction), and started harassing the flamingos. This culminated in him picking up a helpless flamingo named Pinky (props for such an original name), and throwing it to the ground violently, nearly severing her leg. Her injuries were so severe that she had to be euthanized. Apparently, Pinky was kind of a fan-favorite at Busch Gardens, so everyone is understandably pissed.

The judge that presided over Corrao’s first hearing called it ‘senseless’ and ‘depraved’. Wayne Pacelle, the president of The Humane Society says: “People who abuse animals often don’t stop there, and pose a violent risk to the rest of society. That’s why we’ve worked to fortify the legal framework across the country to punish malicious animal cruelty as a serious offense.”
It certainly looks like Corrao is going to pay severely for his animal cruelty. With any luck, he may even get more jail time than the Stanford rapist.
