Miami Getaway at the Mandarin

Written by Maura

Sometimes you just need a break. A time to spend with your girlfriends, unwind and get some sun. That’s what I needed. What better city than Miami, and what better place than the Mandarin Oriental? Hell, if its good enough for Jennifer Aniston, its good enough for me and my two girls, Ally and Anna.

Luxury is our business here and there is no where in Miami more luxurious than the Mandarin Oriental. I’m talking a private beach, balconies with amazing views, beautiful rooms, and first class service everywhere you turn. Now, there are lots of different people that visit Miami: spring breakers ready to rage in South Beach, businessmen there for work, families on vacation, girls weekenders, hottie tennis players there for the Sony Ericsson Open (No, I didn’t meet any of them. They were probably intimidated by my good lucks and witty ways, at least that’s what I tell myself.) But the Mandarin is for a particular type of traveler. Someone who likes the finer things in life but isn’t looking for the craziness that comes with South Beach hotels. Someone looking for a relaxing experience and a type of island oasis that still has access to one of the fastest growing cities in America.

For your reference and entertainment here is a little explanation of my day at the Mandarin:

Its 8AM and Ally throws open the curtains to cringing and whining of myself and Anna. “Early bird gets the tan” according to Ally. Forcing myself out of the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in I read over the days weather that the housekeeper conveniently provided the night before and shuffle onto the balcony. There is nothing better to wake up to than that view, besides maybe Rafael Nadal but let’s be realistic here. I throw on my bikini and head downstairs to the beach, a total commute of about 4 minutes thanks to the private beach. The attendant puts a fresh terrycloth cover and pillows on my bed on the beach, and I proceed to fall asleep under palm trees and sunshine. I roll over around noon and realize, hey..I could use something to eat. Anna agrees. The attendant brings us over a menu and we order some spicy tuna rolls(least shocking detail of this whole article to anyone that knows me) and I threw in a Corona too for good measure, what can I say? I’m multicultural. So we chow down on our delish sushi and continue our relaxation session. Once the sun went down and we shuffled back upstairs to shower and get ready for our night on the town. At this point I’d need a whole new article to get into the evening activities. The best part of the experience at the Mandarin was the service, everyone I interacted with was polite and so eager to help.

So my stay at the Mandarin resulted in two lovely and equally satisfying things, a golden tan and the most well rested sleep I’d had in months. Overall, I’d call the trip a success.
