The Luxury Spot offices are centrally located in Midtown NYC, and being the happy-till-we’re-hungry bunch that we are, we’re ALWAYS in search of a fresh lunch spot. We all have different taste preferences… I like exotic, Matt likes everything, Ashley is vegetarian, Rie loves anything that’s not spicy, and Stephanie has weird textural issues (to be discussed in a later blog). My old friend Adam suggested the West African hotspot, Zereoue, on east 37th Street. SCORE!
Zereoue’s menu and rich decor come from owner Amos Zereoue’s West African heritage… and let me just tell you, his childhood must have tasted delicious, because we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Amos was also a professional NFL running back, and apparently his skills in the kitchen are just as good as his skills on the field.
We started with tall glasses of fresh pineapple & ginger juice. I didn’t expect to like it, but it was refreshing, sweet, and slightly spicy. Matt and I each had 2 or 3 glasses! (Hint: if you’re trying to stay alcohol free, this is an awesome post-work drink to order at the bar… and no one will know you’re abstaining!). We moved on to a delicious Curry Chicken Salad, which at only $11, was an incredible meal. The chicken was coated in a flavorful curry sauce that was slight sweet, spicy, and ultra-fragrant. The greens beneath were crisp and delish! We also sampled a few other amazing dishes, but here’s what we suggest ordering:
- Curry Chicken Salad, $11
- Chawarma, $12
- Aubergine au Poisson, $15
- Kedjenou (signature dish! and really out of the ordinary!), $13
This cozy midtown restaurant is just off 5th Ave, and is a perfect stop for a weekday lunch with clients, after-work drinks with friends and colleagues, or a post-shopping meal (Lord & Taylor is basically across the street, so make a day of it if you’re from out of town).
Zereoue is located at:
13 East 37th Street, NYC

Hi there I like your post “Lunch, Only More Exotic! | The Luxury Spot” so well that I like to ask you whether I should translate into German and linking back. Answer welcome. Greetings Schlauchboot
