Iranian Glitter Mosque or Religious Disco?

The Shah Cheragh mosque in Iran is basically a mosaic tile light show 24/7.

It doesn’t matter whether you love Persian art-forms, religious buildings, or interior spaces covered in glitter, the Shah Cheragh glitter mosque in Iran is probably your dream palace. Mirror mosaics have always been popular in Persian culture, but this particular mosque is covered from floor to ceiling in intricate mosaic designs made of colored glass and mirrors.

The mosque’s name translates to “King of Light”, and it lives up to its name even though it was technically designed for a 14th century queen (obviously). The light inside these buildings is refracted from 1000 different angles creating an awesome lightshow, fitting for the third most important pilgrimage site in Iran. It is also fitting for pretty much every gay club I have ever been to, although there are probably no people overdosing in the bathroom at the mosque.
