Nail Crave: Perfecting Your Cuticles

Written by jessica.tannenbaum

Biting my nails and picking my cuticles has been a horrible habit of mine since as long as I can remember.  I am constantly embarrassed when I look down at my hands because of the dry skin and jagged nail beds, so recently I got into cuticle care.  Below you will find the steps and products that I find necessary to my summer beauty routine.

1.  Cuticle Oil– my favorite cuticle oil is Orly’s Cuticle Care Complex.  I put it on every night before bed, at the base of my nail and around it.  It really helps to moisturize and smooth out any rough cuticles.  When you wake up, the skin around your nails will feel refreshed and replenished.

2.  Cuticle Butter– after I apply the oil and let it soak in, I put on a thick layer of Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream.  The oil and the butter together make such a difference in the appearance of your cuticles.  If you choose not to use an oil, a butter is crucial!

3.  Cuticle Stick– I personally hate clipping my own cuticles.  I find that I get carried away and end up over clipping, and I’m always afraid of bleeding or stabbing myself.  Cuticle pushers are a gentle way to get your cuticles out of the way and keep your nails looking fresh.

4.  Nail Polish– nail polish is a girl’s best friend, and I find that keeping nail polish on my nails at all times or a shiny base coat will prevent me from biting my nails.
