When the bottles of X-Rated first came into the office for our review, we instantly thought “Well, this looks like Alize or Hypnotiq, so let’s get the Henny out and party!” Whoops, we were wrong! Although this sweet liqueur is a mild one at only 34 proof, anyone girl appreciates exotic flavors and organic juices will likely enjoy this drink. Admittedly, it’s only for women, gay men, or men still stuck in that 2007 pink shirt phase since the color of this alcoholic snack is flamingo pink. In every bottle you’ll find the juice of blood oranges from Provence, mango juice from Brazil, and French vodka… it’s like a girly trip around the world for your tongue.
The recipes on the website are cute, although I think they appeal to a bunch of 22-year old sorostitutes (but with a name like X-Rated, I’m sure that comes with the territory). We preferred it mixed with fresh grapefruit juice and a splash of cranberry juice. It was sophisticated, light, and refreshing… and when we served it to our guests at the annual holiday party, they didn’t suspect anything that screamed out “spring break Cancun!”
