Older Mothers: More Likely to Have Autistic Children

Written by Bryce

A new study is proving that older mothers face a significantly greater risk of giving birth to a child with autism.  Researchers scrutinized every recorded birth in California in the 1990’s, about 4.9 million, and found that women over 40 are a whopping 77% more likely to have an autistic child than mothers 25 years or under.  Women over 40 are also 51% more likely to give birth to an autistic child than mothers 25-29.

The Los Angeles times broke the news on this study, citing that the father’s age has little affect on the likelihood of having an autistic child.  Moral of the story? Get out there and get breeding sooner than later.  Added benefits included less arthritis flare-ups when you’re trying to help your kid move into his/her college dorm.
