Pack Easy and Baby Yourself

Written by Bryce

With the weather getting warmer, I’m starting to get back in the habit of long weekends and short trips (even if they’re not terribly far).  However, this summer is different from last.  I have a small baby that usually requires packing a big load of stuff.  Too bad, because that’s just not my style.  So I’ve gotten creative and streamlined my essentials so the wee one and myself can basically share the same supplies and all be packed in one cutesy DVF rolling weekend bag!

There are the obvious essentials, but I’ve gotten creative with each.  I’ve managed to pack a shampoo/body wash that’s designed for baby but kickass for anyone (me), organic baby powder that’s good for baby’s tush and amazing as a hair refresher since it smells of lavender, a weightless baby lotion that makes my skin feel smoother than butter, facial cleansing cloths that double as wipes (haha), and an all-purpose healing and cleansing gel that solves diaper rash and also removes makeup from even a sorely crispy beach face!

VedaBaby makes a fresh shampoo & body wash that smells like tea with honey, is super gentle, but washes hair perfectly (without drying)!  For $40, it’s a bit pricey, but the space this 4 ounce bottle saves in your bag is fantastic, and knowing that it’s safe for even the most sensitive skin is PRICELESS!

FarmBaby’s organic baby powder is only $8.95, made of all safe & organic ingredients, and smells absolutely divine.  The lavender scent is gentle and relaxing, so my little angel sleeps well, but also doubles as the perfect hair refresher after a late night out.  Smokey party?  Sprinkle some in your hair and it will absorb the gross scents that may have settled into your strands, and it’ll give your roots a lift by temporarily absorbing oil.

Avalon Organics’ Weightless Nourishing Baby Lotion is made with a certified organic blend of chamomile, cocoa butter, flax, and sunflower… and baby, I’m hooked!  Baby ben squirms with delight when this lotion is rubbed into his chubby little arms, and my legs couldn’t be happier (or more moisturized).  The 6 ounce bottle is the perfect size to pack, easily recycled, and contains no parabens.  Oh yeah, and it’s totally vegetarian for you little bunnies (Ashley).  And hooray!!! It’s under $10!

Mustela is the name to count on in Europe for top-quality baby care… When Ben was first born I remember hearing from other moms in the hospital that Mustela is a must-hell-yeah! (Ok, so they didn’t phrase it like that, but whatevs, I’m young and I paraphrased their exuberance for this fab line.)  The facial cleansing cloths are great… they do everything from removing your makeup and lightly exfoliating to wiping junior’s tush in a pinch.  25 wipes come per package, they have no alcohol, and the resealable flip-top makes carrying these a breeze! And holy moly, for only $7 at Sephora, WHY NOT?!

Finally, I think everyone (man, woman, child) should own some TriDerma All-Purpose Aloe Healing & Cleansing Gel. The waterless formula gently cleanses without drying or irritating skin (hello sunburns from long weekends on the Cape!), is perfect for chafed faces (whoa, happens when you’re sailing and yachting and such), and helps diaper rash heal much faster without causing any pain to my bubbeleh’s heiny. Another fab find under $10!
