Paul Labrecque’s Top 5 Hair Trends for Spring

Written by Bryce

Everything you’ll need to know to keep your tresses fashionable.

Intense Hair Color – Ravishing Reds & Platinum Blondes Red is a stunning color for women who want to be noticed this spring and summer. It creates a look that is very youthful and sexy—perfect for those who want to feel more confident! The ideal red color can make any woman look younger, brighten up her face and bring out her skin and eye coloring. We’re creating many beautiful variations on this color, from deep reds to lovely strawberry blonds with glossy gold and copper tones (think Lindsey Lohan back in Mean Girls).

Side note: Paul’s salon has been rated one of the top places to become a redhead by New York Magazine. Nice.

Blunt Bangs Long and full blunt bangs have been quite popular and we expect to see this trend continue throughout the summer months. Don’t end up looking like Sandra Bullock at the Emmys! Tell your stylist the bangs should end just below your eyebrows. This will really bring out your eyes. You can also easily go more retro and ‘70s inspired with this style by sweeping the long bangs across your forehead—channel your inner Brigitte Bardot! If you’re not ready to commit to this look yet, we can create a custom bang clip-in for you.

Braids Braids are super easy to create and they’re perfect for fighting frizz on those hot and humid summer days! The braid is ideal for the free-spirited woman and this style goes so well with the relaxed boho chic look that’s always in style. There are many fun variations on the classic braid I enjoy creating—from big, loose side braid to a messy fishtail or a small braid across the forehead. You can even sleep with your wet hair in a braid and take it out the next morning to reveal loose and gorgeous waves. I recommend prepping hair with product before with my moisturizing Repair Style to minimize flyaways in the braid. We’re also seeing some fun Grecian updos and buns that incorporate braided pieces of hair on the side or crown of the head.

The “Grown Out” Pixie Hair Style This “in between” stage when women decide to grow out that pixie or crop cut can be tough to handle at first, but working with the right styling products is crucial. You can look very seductive and playful growing out a short hair style! Make sure your hair looks soft and just the right amount of messy. Work with your natural hair texture and use my Daily Finish pomade.

Romantic Buns For a hot date night out on the town, a summer wedding or a beach party, you can never go wrong with a sophisticated bun. As we saw earlier in 2010, there have been so many variations on this style—from tightly styled high up on the head to a loose chignon on the nape of the neck, there’s a bun for any occasion! Right now I’m loving the romantic, loose styles that incorporate wavy or even braided pieces into a style that’s fit for a modern day princess. The key to a flirty side chignon is looping in small sections one at a time and using bobby pins to secure. Finish with a spray such as my Volume Finish and you’re good to go!
