Aptly called the Grand Prismatic Spring (named by drag queens, obviously) this natural wonder is a gorgeous hot spring located in Yellowstone Park that basically looks like a bubbling hot tub surrounded by a rainbow.
We have been seeing a lot of rainbows lately, from the moonbows over Victoria Falls to that solar rainbow that had everyone snapping Instagrams and going blind last week.
The Grand Prismatic Spring however, is a natural wonder and has been a permanent fixture of Yellowstone National Park since the early 1800s. The spring has the appearance of a rainbow butthole because of pigmented bacteria and microbes that thrive in the warm water, creating colorful rings around the spring. Different seasons allow for different bacterial growths, so the colors actually change depending on the climate. Before you get any ideas about taking a dip though, you should note that the water is so beautiful because it is boiling hot, and sterile. You really shouldn’t stick so much as a finger in, unless you want to pull back a bone.
It has always been my life quest to touch a rainbow, but even though the Grand Prismatic Spring (I just love saying that) didn’t get me any closer to my goal, it sure is pretty, right?
