Relationship Spotting: The Importance of Apologies

Written by Gary

Here is the truth: Apologizing is one of the keystones to any good friendship or relationship. If you have even an ounce of humanity, chances are you are going to screw up. If you are as awesome as I am (awesome = inconsiderate in this case) you will probably screw up a lot.

Telling someone you are sorry is really saying that you care enough about them to swallow your pride. We all have our egos, and the truth is that nobody ever wants to be wrong. In fact, some people hate to be wrong so much that they are willing to create entire false scenarios in their head in order to win an argument (Capricorns, I am talking to you). But when you enter into a relationship with someone, no matter what the nature of the connection you commit to honoring that person’s feelings. If you are lucky enough to have people in your life that love you, then you need to be humble enough to apologize when you hurt them.

Mistakes, snafus, and shenanigans are bound to happen in our lives. It is how we deal with them, and maintain the relationships around us that determine whether we end up on our deathbeds surrounded by loved ones, or at the bottom of a river, murdered for soliciting a lonely blowie from a hooker in an alleyway just so we could feel a human connection again.

And yes, those are the only two possible outcomes.
