Relationship Spotting: Why January is Online Dating Season

I thought December holidays were made for relationships and not leaving the house and cuddling, but apparently 24% of people break up over the holidays. Maybe that’s why January is online dating season. Think about it: you don’t have to go out into the cold to find eligible people; you can stay in your leopard snuggie and look as ugly as you want and eat as un-daintily as you normally do.

Statistically, though, the January spike in online dating is also caused by…

The 67% of single people whose New Year’s resolution is to find love (according to a Match.com poll).

The 82% who say holidays make them feel “more romantic” than other times.

Or the 14% of men and 10% of women who only got into a relationship to be with someone during the holidays.

OkCupid usage increases 30% in January, and Match.com gets a 55% increase in new members after the new year!
