I am definitely not one of those gays who gets really squeamish about reptiles, but I also don’t want to sit down and take tea with a komodo dragon. That is why I was both surprised and unsurprised (because Asia always manages to come up with the craziest shit) to find out about the Pet Café, a restaurant in Hanoi, Vietnam where you can have a drink and snack with snakes, lizards, rats, and tarantulas.
The Pet Café was started by Minh Nghia, a stockbroker who has raised reptiles for 5 years, and spends between 6-8 months training them before introducing them to the café, so if you have a fear of creepy-crawly creatures and find yourself in Vietnam, the Pet Café is probably a good place to have a warm tea and get over some of your fears.
This may not be the first time I have heard of a snake in a café, but it is definitely the first time that snake wasn’t attached to an undercover cop in the bathroom.
