Guest editor Colleen Vincent tried the new Madame CJ Walker Beauty Culture Dream Come True Wonderful Pre-Wash Protein Treatment and shared her deepest feels.

As a naturalist, a lover, member, and follower of the natural hair movement, I’m obviously a product junkie. My vanity is littered with gels, creams, and potions that promise, to lengthen, strengthen, and tame my curly mane into submission. So I jumped at the chance to try Madam CJ Walker Beauty Culture Dream Come True Wonderful Pre-Wash Protein Treatment ($32). Type 4 hair, and curly hair in general, can be quite fragile and is prone to breakage as natural scalp oils don’t travel down the hair shaft easily. Styling manipulation and any kind of environmental friction, ooph, queue damage!

Strengthening treatments and good conditioning help maintain the integrity of strands and thus length retention.
So, I slathered my damp, frizzy hair with the Madam CJ Walker Dream Come True Wonderful, slapped on a shower cap and wrapped my head in a hot towel for maximum product penetration.
My pre-wash strand assessment was positive, and I noticed visible curl definition emerge. I’m not sure if I would use this product as a straight-up detangler since it has less slip than I’d prefer, but I’m sure looser curl types could. I followed up with Madam CJ Walker Beauty Culture’s Jamaican Black Castor and Murumuru Oils Ultra Moisturizing Co Wash ($24) and finished with Madam CJ Walker Beauty Culture’s Jamaican Black Castor and Murumuru Oils Defining Butter Cream ($26).
The final resul was soft, defined curls and coils that lasted for a week!
The Madam CJ Walker Beauty Culture Dream Come True treatment contains all star ingredients for curl girls, like shea butter, coconut oil, and panthenol, that serve to moisturize and seal delicate strands. I also enjoyed the powdery, soft sweet scent. The Defining Butter Cream proved to be a fabulous find with a non tacky feel and long lasting buildup free hold. I found the amber and musk scent a bit overwhelming, but the men in my life seemed to love it. Madame CJ Walker Beauty Culture’s product line is paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free — making it very safe to use. The line is available at here at Sephora, as well as Amazon.
