Watermelon is the official fruit of summer. Actually, I made that up, but what I didn’t make up is the myriad of health benefits that watermelon has to offer. It’s an excellent addition to your diet, specifically in the sweltering months of summer.

Watermelon is a great source of vitamins A (hi, eye health and antioxidants), C (that’s for you, immune system), and B6 (who new watermelon improves brain function?).

Move over, tomatoes. Watermelon has one of the highest concentrations of lycopene out of any fruits or vegetables. Just a little reminder, lycopene helps protect against heart disease and several different types of cancer. Casual.

Watermelon is a good go-to snack when you need a potassium boost. Potassium helps muscle and nerve function, lowers the risk of high blood pressure, and helps your body maintain a proper electrolyte balance.

Eat watermelon, and your arteries will thank you. It contains citrulline and arginine: amino acids that help with blood flow and overall maintenance of the cardiovascular system.

Plus, they don’t call it watermelon for nothing – it’s a delicious form of hydration for summer days.
